The Flowers / Kukkia
Berndt Arell – 2004
Watercolors made by Karin Oldfelt Hjertonsson, written by Berndt Arell, presently the director of the Museum of Modern Art ( Kiasma) in Helsinki, Finland.
Karin Oldfelt Hjertonsson´s flowers are not botanical illustrations, and it is often impossible to identify them. Instead they are portraits of her experiences. I have always considered technique secondary to expression and artistic endeavour. Technique is not art. The most important tool of an artist is courage, not pigment, water, brush or paper. On the other hand, excellent technique and first class materials and tools are also required. ( Berndt Arell).
